I always enjoy getting involved in twitter chats. These are scheduled conversations, based on a #hashtag, with a common theme.
The chats I take part in regularly are:
This is aimed at job seekers with recruiters, branding and networking experts as well as other contributors pitching in with advice. Each week 4 questions are posed that have been submitted by job seekers. (One every 15 minutes.) The chat takes place at 9.00PM E.S.T. Monday night and that’s 4.00 till 5.00AM in the UK.
#BlogChat – Hosted by Mack Collier (@MackCollier).
This is exactly what it would appear by the title. Chat about blogging around a weekly theme. I have learnt a tremendous amount from taking part in this as the conversation goes quickly from topic to topic. This weeks contributors included Chris Brogan (@ChrisBrogan) along with other bloggers with great reputations in the blogosphere. #BlogChat takes place at 8.00PM EST Sunday night and that’s 3.00 till 4.00AM in the UK.
#TNL – TalentNetLive – hosted by Craig Fisher (@Fishdogs.)
TalentNet is aimed at recruiters and takes place each month on a pre-arranged discussion topic. This has a really good mix of humor and good content and has lots of thought provoking tweets that start whole new discussion threads. The chat takes place on a Thursday night at 9.00PM EST and that’s 4.00 – 6.00Am in the UK.
The beauty of these chats I think lies in the fact that there is no sign up. You just pick up the #hashtag and jump in. Theres usually between 500 and 800 contributors in any one session and the tweets come fast and furious. You also tend to gain plenty of new followers with a shared interest. I’ve learnt a lot from others and take part whenever I can.
The downside is that all the chats take place in the U.S, which makes the hours unsociable for most. I’ve tried to find similar chats in the U.K. but have been unable to find anything. This seems to be a concept that has not yet made its way across the water.
I want to change that and see how it takes off..
To this end I will be hosting #truchat between 9.00 and 10.00PM TONIGHT, Monday 07/06/10. The topic for tonight will be the candidate experience, and is open for anyone with a view or something to add.
All you need to do to take part is be there and add #truchat to your tweets on the subject. I might be tweeting alone, but if we get a take up, the best way to follow and take part is via tweetgrid.
Hope to see you there. Be ambassadors of the conversation.
